The Month of Salsa

In preparation for next month, we just wanted to share a little bit about our fresh, made daily, salsas! Now, you may be wondering what the month of May has to do with salsas. Well, you’re in for a real treat! May is National Salsa Month. Normally, people celebrate May by experimenting with salsa recipes and the different ways it can be applied. We’re more interested in letting you know more about our salsas so you can go into May informed.

To start with, we just want to share a bit about our salsa bar. You won’t find anything quite as large as ours in Fort Wayne. Why is that? Because we had so many salsas to share! Now, let’s dig in!

Starting from least spicy to the most, here’s a quick list of our salsas, plus a quick rundown on the vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free aspects of each:

As you can see, our Roasted Habanero & Tomato salsa has the highest spicy level rating, and that’s above the pickled jalapeños! This is because of the spicy habanero peppers. Don’t worry, the salsa, while spicy, isn’t anywhere near the spicy level of ghost peppers. We want you to be able to enjoy the spice and flavors without rushing around in search of milk.

Besides the super spicy Roasted Habanero & Tomato salsa, we also have a sweeter side with our increasingly popular Grilled Pineapple / Chipotle salsa. That’s right, we grill the pineapples for this sweet and savory salsa. The only thing we can say about these two salsas is that they look very similar in appearance, so be sure to read the labels before you take your pick!

If avocados are your jam, we’d recommend our Avocado salsa! It’s a bit on the spicy side, but it’s well worth it for the flavor! Similar in color, but not in taste, is our tomatillo salsa. This salsa is made with green tomatillo, which is also known as the Mexican husk tomato. It’s no wonder a tomato made it into a salsa!

Up in the level three spiciness level is our Serrano Garlic and Ranchera salsas. These are very different in flavor, even though they both have garlic as one of their ingredients. One, the Ranchera salsa, is a deep brownish-red, a coloring that comes from the winning combination of the spicy chipotle and citrusy tomato. Meanwhile, the Serrano Garlic salsa, gets its flavor not from chipotle, but from the spicy serrano peppers paired with fresh tomatoes and the bite of garlic.

Lastly, we wanted to go over our George’s salsas. We’ve saved these best salsas for last! These classic salsa blends have been around since our early days at the Taquería inside George’s. Many have claimed at least one of them as their go-to salsa as they are more traditional in their ingredients.

All of our ingredients come from George’s International Market, and as luck would have it, you can also find many of our salsas there. We hope you’ll give a few of them a try, and not just in May for Salsa Month!
