Have you ever been curious about what makes our Taquería so unique compared to our three other Salsa Grille locations? We’re here to set the myths aside and reveal it all! Our original Taquería opened in 2006 inside George's International Market, and was named George's Mexican Cafe. The focus of the taqueria is that of traditional Taquería specializing in tacos. It wasn't until 2012 that the Salsa Grille concept known today was born, with the first Salsa Grille location on Coldwater Road.
Keeping with that tradition, the Taqueria entrees include a default set of authentic toppings, such as our tacos with your choice of meat, cilantro, and onions. You can always change your toppings of course. Everything is made to order, and chips are included when you dine in! All of the salsas at the Taqueria are bottled so you can add your favorite flavor in just the right amounts. Here are a few other differences between our Taqueria and our other locations:
The Original Taqueria
On Monday and Wednesday only, the Taqueria has tacos for just $1.50 (lengua costs extra)!
These tasty meals were created to be meals on the go. The Taquería offers three different options for the tamales: chicken with salsa verde, pork with salsa roja, or rajas (cheese & poblano). Our tamales are sold individually, by the half dozen or by the dozen. For larger orders, we recommend ordering ahead (especially around the holidays) as tamales are hand crafted and need more time for large orders.
We specialize in the traditional Torta, which features thinly sliced breaded chicken breast or sirloin tip steak named Milanesa. Be sure to come hungry as this large sandwich comes with choice of meat, mayo, lettuce, tomato, & avocado. Don’t forget to try the two breaded meats only available for the Torta (Breaded Beef and Breaded Chicken) and fresh bread made daily by the George's Bakery!
Breakfast on Weekends
That’s right! The Taquería has breakfast items on Saturdays and Sundays from 8-11am. You can choose meats like bacon, chorizo, or sausage. We have breakfast tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and the traditional chorizo and eggs. Stay tuned for new breakfast menu items coming soon!
While the Taquería does have the Salsa Grille Fideo soup, it stands alone in also offering Menudo Soup, a traditional tripe stew in a rich broth with a guajillo pepper base. Now available daily.
Keeping with tradition, our Taquería offers lengua or cow tongue meat as an option. Try it out on any entrée, though we recommend it on tacos.
Elote (aka Mexican Street Corn) is a common street food in Mexico, hence the nickname. It's often served on a stick, though you could skip the skewer and have it in a cup instead. We use a blend of Mayo, Mexican sour cream, and butter that is brushed on and then topped with Cotija cheese and can be spiced up with some heat with a sprinkle of chili de arbol. A smoked paprika version will be coming soon.
Horchata & Jamaica
There are two drinks that can only be found at the Taquería: Horchata and Jamaica. Horchata is a Mexican drink that is made with rice and is flavored with cinnamon and sweetened with sugar. Jamaica is made from the dried hibiscus flower, which is boiled like tea and then cooled and sweetened to perfection. Both are non-alcoholic.
